The Pump House and Water Tank

May 2000

We hired A to Z Tanks (Troy and Gina) to build and install a water tank and pump house for us. The tank can hold 2500 gallons. We don't have a well yet, so we had H2O2U deliver a truck load of water to us.

The pump house is an 8x10 shed with a barn style roof to match our cabin (Troy's idea). Deb and I painted it to match the cabin's color. We may go buy some dark trim paint to match someday, but that's low on the priority list.

Inside the pump house is a pump and a pressure tank. This system pressurizes the water for delivery to the house, when it gets built. For now, we will probably just run a water line to the cabin. But that will require digging a trench, and the rocky land makes this a big job!

In the mean time, we have a water spigot coming out of the pump house we can attach a hose to. This will be nice on those hot sunny days. Our next plans include building some kind of shower stall near the pump house.

Our remote tree watering system failed. It appears some rodent ate our drip hose. We went to town and bought a piece of copper tubing and ran the drip hose through it. If the rat chews through the copper, we're selling the property! Troy told us to set a bucket of water out as a trap. They discovered this trick when they discovered rats in their dog's water bucket one day. We'll see if this works for us...

The hummingbird feeder was blown down from the hanger Deb screwed to the side of the cabin. She replaced it and bought another one that sits on a short pole. We'll see which one survives the next wind storm...
