Working from Home

February 2002

One of my goals in life is to be able to work from home. Working from Dragon's Nest is the ultimate. All I need is power for the PC. Unfortunately, the power here is not yet reliable. When I couldn't start the generator, I discovered a mouse had been busy building a nest of insulation inside the magneto housing. The mouse probably died of fibrous lungs...
It turns out the mouse didn't cause my problem. Cleaning out the nest did not help. While I was beginning to tear apart the generator, I noticed a sticker that said the generator had an auto shut-off switch that kicks in when the oil is low. Mind you I had already checked the oil and it was about halfway between the "Fill" and "Full" marks. I put about a half cup in and she started up right away!

I discovered I had enough extension cords lying around to reach the cabin from the pumphouse.

...all I need is a Dragon's Brew and I'm ready to work!

We got a DVD player for christmas and Deb started looking for deals on DVDs. Eventually, we'll want an entertainment center up here (in the house we build), so Deb has commenc't to collectin'. She found the best prices at Sam's Club and we joined. While perusing their wares, Deb spotted this nifty green cart. The sides fold down and it'll hold 1100 lbs. You can fold one side down, throw in some cushions and have a mobile luvseat.
We can also wander around the property and pick up odds and ends we find and add them to our collection. One thing we're missing is the coyote skull we found last year. The rats probably ate it before we had a chance to mount it.

We bought a special pipe that attaches to the 20lb propane tank and supports (and feeds) a lantern. There are also extra hookups for the stove and such. This particular lamp now sheds a little more light on the kitchen at night.

Deb had bought these letters and painted them the same green as all our signs.
She then told me where I could stick em.

I think we do good work together.

Of course, a man will say anything to get a woman to feed him. Deb made an apple-pineapple cobbler on an open fire. It was pretty good. What we really need is a dutch oven. My brother-in-law used one to make a chocolate cake when he was up here last summer. It's amazing what you can do when you're out in the boonies.

Another busted pipe...
